Sun Tea

Sun tea is a method of brewing tea using the rays of the sun. If you aren’t totally comfortable leaving your tea to brew in the sun as there is a potential for bacterial growth if left out too long, you can make a cold brew following the same instructions by placing the tea in the fridge to infuse instead

Ingredients:

1-2 TBSP Loose tea OR 1-2 tea bags

1 quart cold water

Instructions:

  1. Decide what brewing vessel you’re going to be using: a mason jar, French press or a tea pot with infusion basket. If you don’t have an infusion basket you could either place the tea directly in the chosen vessel & strain them out later. Unbleached fillable tea bags are also an option.

  2. Place your tea into your chosen brewing vessel.

  3. Pour the cold water over top

  4. Place the container outside for 3-4 hours. This will still work on a cloudy day so don’t worry too much about the amount of sun that’s out

  5. Bring the container back inside & strain the tea

  6. Add some honey or sugar to sweeten if desired & enjoy!

Shelf life:

  • 3-4 days in the refrigerator for best results
