Pickling Spice

Today we’re making pickling spice. This blend is delicious with pickles & even pickled eggs

Feel free to switch up the ingredients, this is just what I’m putting in mine

Equipment:

  • Mortar & pestle or herb/spice grinder

  • Measuring spoons

  • Storage jar

Ingredients:

2 TBSP Mustard Seeds

1 TBSP Coriander Seeds

1 TBSP Dill Seeds OR Fennel Seeds

1 TBSP Peppercorns

1 tsp Allspice Berries

1 tsp Red Chili Flakes

4 Whole Cloves, crushed

4 Bay Leaves, crushed

¼ tsp Ginger

Instructions:

  1. Lightly crush up the bay leaves & cloves, placing them in a storage jar

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients

  3. Place the lid on the jar & shake well until combined

Storage:

  • 6-12 months in an air tight container

Usage:

  • ½ - 1 TBSP of spice per 1 quart of vegetables

Notes:

  • Use a combination of different types of mustard seeds if desired
