Maple Extract

Let’s make a maple extract. This extract is very easy to customize by using different types of alcohol or you can make this an alcohol free version as well

Equipment:

  • Knife

  • Cutting board

  • Measuring cup

  • Mason jar with lid

  • Parchment or Wax paper

  • Unbleached coffee filter

Ingredients:

½ cup Alcohol

½ cup Dark Maple Syrup

2 Grade B Vanilla Beans, optional

Alcohol free version:

3 oz Food Grade Glycerin

1 oz Distilled Water

½ cup or 4 oz Dark Maple Syrup

2 Grade B Vanilla Beans, optional

Instructions:

  1. If you are using vanilla beans carefully slice the beans down the middle, exposing the beans. Cut the beans in half if needed as the beans will need to be fully submerged & add them to a clean mason jar

  2. Pour the alcohol over top. If you are making this alcohol free, mix the glycerin & water together then add it to the mason jar

  3. Add the maple syrup

  4. Place a piece of parchment paper on top of the jar & add the lid

  5. Shake well to combine

  6. Allow the extraction to sit for 2-4 weeks, shaking the jar daily or every other day

  7. Once complete strain through an unbleached coffee filter & place in storage container
